By decision of the La Chorrera Municipal Council, the Ministry of Culture has obtained the use and administration of 1 hectare plus 1,879 square meters for 20 years for the construction of an arts and culture center in this district of the West Panama province. The land ceded to the Ministry of Culture is part of the 3 hectares that currently belong to the La Chorrera Fair. The initiative was presented to the municipal council through a municipal agreement by Deputy Yuzaida Marín and is planned to be executed in stages, starting with the studies and design phase. Maruja Herrera, minister of this portfolio, indicated that the project will be entered into the ministry's database and projects to later request financing from the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and approval from the cabinet council. She added that the facilities could also house the School of Fine Arts, which is in 'a state of great abandonment.' This arts and culture center will allow for the strengthening of the rescue of traditions and culture of the West Panama province, as well as the training of new talents in the arts. Yuzaida Marín, the project's proponent, reported that a conceptual design and blueprints for the arts and culture center are already available and have been presented to Minister Herrera. In turn, the mayor of this district, Eloy Chong, stated that the construction of the arts and culture center on the grounds of the La Chorrera Fair is part of the development that will be given to this estate, which is only used for 15 days a year.
